How was Ireland depicted in illustrations of the country produced by travellers in the period from 1680 to 1860? A new database of images drawn from travel accounts answers this question. Based on years of research by a group of investigators at NUI Galway led by Professor Jane Conroy, Ireland Illustrated is now available to view online.

The impact of her parents’ (Professor Tom Dillon and Geraldine Plunkett) commitment to the War of Independence, and her nightly fears of sudden raids on their home by the Black and Tans was a nightmare that stayed with her all her life. 

NUI Galway will hold its second spring open day for students considering applying or those who have already applied to the university, and for their parents or guardians. The event will be held on Saturday April 24, from 10am to 3pm at the NUI Galway Campus. The inaugural spring open day took place last year and over 3,000 students and their parents registered on the day.
